At Bertram's Hotel

I've been on a huge Agatha Christie kick this year. It's crazy how many books she actually wrote, although I've read so many by now it's like I can recognize the typical ingredients (if the victim's face is smashed in, I know the two possible reasons!). Anyway, this is kind of an overlap of her crime thriller and murder mystery categories because there's a complicated crime syndicate but also a whodunnit. About midlist for me, but even an average Agatha Christie is a lot of fun! I got a bunch of these used on Bookbot so they have great covers like this.

In the course of my Agatha Christie jag, I've also been reading more of her short fiction, which is also a lot of fun. And check out this amazing cover! (1971 edition). I can't decide whether I like Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot better but I prefer either of them to Tommy and Tuppence.

Ruthless People

This movie is so fun! I watched it because it was a Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker movie I hadn't seen, so I thought it would be zany like Airplane. It does have a lot of laugh-out-loud hilarity, but it also works as a clever heist movie with lots of twists. Great cast with Danny Devito, Bette Midler, Bill Pullman, Judge Reinhold, etc. It's rare that cross-genre movies like action comedies work so well in both. Spoiler alert, no harm comes to the dog.
